Grading Policy 2026-27 SY

Our grading policy is designed to consider accuracy, equity and social-emotional well-being. Our grading policy reflects the following guiding principles:

• All credit bearing courses, including Electives and Physical Education, must have a syllabus that aligns to the Course Review Form. This includes: indication of NGL Standards and a clear reflection of 54 hours of instruction (per credit)
• Non-credit bearing courses, including AA courses, will also have a syllabus that reflects course content, related standards and criteria for P/F (P:65-100, F: 10-64) or Performance Levels 1-4
• Grading student work for understanding of concepts and mastery of skills is different from grading based on completion of assignments alone
• We recognize that students have unequal access to out-of-school time and resources to support homework completion. While assigned as per the needs of each class, we give actionable feedback rather than a grade on those assignments
• Each piece of graded work corresponds to a course learning goal
• Grades for standards-aligned work are not impacted by non-mastery factors (ie lateness)
• Summative assessment tasks make up the final grade. Formative assignments may be given lower or no weight so that students can focus on using feedback to strengthen their skills
• Final course grades should reflect the students’ ultimate level of proficiency at the end of the course. They should not be an average of marking period grades as such a model penalizes students who do not demonstrate proficiency from the beginning of the course.

Final Grade Criteria

• Standards-aligned Coursework (outlined on syllabus): 50%
• Summative Assessments (ie CPTs, Final Projects/Essays, Unit Tests): 35%
• Formative Assessments (ie Regents prep quizzes, Exit Ticket responses) 15%
