New York State Diploma Requirements Applicable to All Students Enrolled in Grades 9-12
Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS)
The CDOS commencement credential is one of two alternate exiting credentials available to students with IEPs upon the elimination of the IEP Diploma in 2013 and is only available to students who participate in standardized assessment.
The CDOS Certificate can be awarded alone or in addition to a high school diploma, however, it is not equivalent to a high school diploma. This certificate indicates that the student has the knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level employment and can only be obtained through a minimum of 216 hours of study in career and technical education (CTE) Coursework or work based learning experiences. Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential (SACC)
The SACC is a certificate awarded ONLY to Alternate Assessment students who are eligible to take the NYSAA and have attended school for no less than 12 years, excluding Kindergarten. This certificate replaced the IEP Diploma. It provides students to demonstrate their ability and achievement in career development, occupational studies, skills development and is not equivalent to a high school diploma. Community Service Requirements will be required for some of our 11th and 12th graders. Parents/Guardians will be informed if this is applicable to their child.
